Alternate Designs for the Main Sanctuary Stained Glass

Below are a couple other ideas that developed along the way, that we thought you might like to see.

The alternate design,above, uses the blue border instead of the inscribed ladder.

 

 

In the alternate design above, stylized stairways sweep away from the ark and are inscribed with the ten obligations without measure, in Hebrew and English. Ladders abound, including the border ladder, with its 54 steps. Sweeping curved lines spiral, ladder-like upward and a pair of vanishing rainbow ladders recedes, in the middle of the composition drawing the eye upward and inward. At the very top of the composition a group of pomegranates links the two ladders.
 
 
 

In this preliminary work, the Shema swirls upward, like a ladder, connecting the earth with heaven.
