These etchings will be installed in the sanctuary entrance doors at The New Synagogue. "Emet," or "truth," is made up of the first, the middle and the last letters of the Hebrew Alphabet and is thereby a symbol of all the letters and everything that comes from them.The mirror images of the word refers to an Eastern European myth that tells of a time when all the letters were mirror images and were used for many more things than mere writing, by the angels, whose jealousy, at the creation of Mankind, caused the letters to be truncated as we now know them. Around the border, the "tohu v'vohu," or raw material of creation transforms from darkness to light
